Crime rate reduced to 50 percent : Rehman Malik

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has said that over 50 percent overall reduction has been registered in petty crimes ratio in the country especially in urban areas, while suicide bombing has almost ended. In an Interview he said, PPP was striving hard to achieve total tranquility and peace in the country as it is essential for economic development.One million unregistered Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) were blocked as most of the crimes were being committed with the help of unregistered mobile numbers, he informed. Agreements have also been inked with China and other countries to enhance the strength of law enforcement agencies, improve their capabilities aiming to enable them to achieve the targets, he said. The situation in FATA was improving fast due to judicious measures taken by the government. In a recent operation in Khyber Agency as many as 400 criminals were arrested. Six kidnapped persons were also recovered from the custody of criminals, he maintained.
